The Denholm (Scotland) family is not a clan, as it is of Borders origin, rather it is considered a sept (a division of a tribe) of the Douglas family, who, acquired the Cistercian Abbey of Melrose, less than 20km from the village of Denholm, Roxburghshire, in 1568.
